Stoneware is usually the better fit for substantial, tactile products with muted, natural glazes. New Bone China suits lighter, thinner tableware with a creamy-white body and brighter colour. Neither material is universally better. The right choice depends on the intended look, product weight, surface finish and cost structure.
What Is the Main Difference Between Stoneware and New Bone China
In Willcan's current production reference, stoneware is typically fired at about 1180 degrees Celsius and has a clean natural grey-brown clay body without dark speckles. New Bone China is typically fired at 1200 to 1260 degrees Celsius and has a creamy-white body. Exact results vary by body formula, kiln and finish, so approved samples remain the production reference.

Which Material Gives the Better Glaze and Decal Result
The body colour matters most when the design relies on colour glaze or visible background areas. A grey-brown stoneware body tends to make colour glazes look softer, more muted and more natural. New Bone China's lighter body can make the same colour appear cleaner and more vivid.
For decal printing, the difference can be smaller when both bodies have a suitable glazed surface and the decal is calibrated correctly. However, the creamy-white background of New Bone China may create a brighter overall presentation, while stoneware supports a more relaxed handcrafted character.

Is Stoneware Always Cheaper Than New Bone China
No. Cost depends on the complete finish. In current Willcan costing, stoneware can be more economical when the inside and outside use colour glaze with the same decal. With white inside and outside, New Bone China can be more economical. This is not universal. Shape, finish, quantity and packaging must be quoted together.
