How to Get an Accurate Ceramic MOQ and Quotation

A practical guide to the product, SKU, glaze, decoration, packaging and timing information buyers should provide for an accurate ceramic MOQ and quotation.

A ceramic supplier cannot confirm a reliable MOQ from the product name alone. The practical quantity depends on the exact shape, material, color, decoration, SKU plan and packaging. If details are missing, the first figure may change after sampling.
For a faster and more accurate quotation, buyers should describe the real product they want to order—not simply ask, “What is your MOQ?”

Why One MOQ Cannot Cover Every Ceramic Project

A standard white mug made with an existing mould may support a smaller starting quantity. The same mug with a custom glaze, several decals and individual colour boxes creates separate production minimums.
Each process must reach a workable quantity for stable production, quality and cost.

Shape, surface, decoration and packaging can each create a separate production minimum.

What Details Change the MOQ Most
1. Product and shape. Confirm the product type, capacity, dimensions and whether an existing shape is acceptable. A new mould usually requires a higher initial commitment than a proven shape.
2. Material and surface. Stoneware, porcelain and New Bone China use different bodies and firing routes. Standard glazes are normally easier to plan than exclusive colours, reactive effects or multi-finish combinations.
3. Artwork and decoration. Decals, underglaze screen printing, hand painting, embossing and logo application have different setup requirements. MOQ should be checked for each design, not only for the total order.
4. Quantity by SKU. Share the expected quantity for every shape, colour and artwork. Mixed SKUs can be practical when they share a compatible body, shape, glaze, decoration method or packaging structure.
5. Packaging. Bulk cartons, individual colour boxes, sleeves and gift sets have different printing and assembly minimums. In some projects, the packaging minimum is higher than the ceramic minimum.

What Should Buyers Send for an Accurate Quotation

A useful enquiry should include the product or reference image, dimensions or capacity, preferred material, colour direction, artwork, quantity by SKU, packaging method, target market and required delivery date.
If the final details are not ready, Willcan can start with a working brief and compare practical options. For example, we may recommend an existing shape, group compatible SKUs, simplify the first package or phase special colours into a later order.

A complete brief reduces quotation revisions and helps the supplier evaluate each SKU correctly.

How Willcan Confirms a Workable MOQ

We review the complete assortment by product and process, then separate compatible items from features that need an independent minimum. The quotation states the production basis clearly before sampling. Once samples confirm the shape, colour, decoration and packaging, the bulk plan can be finalised with fewer surprises.
A focused project may begin with several hundred pieces when the structure is suitable, while established programmes can scale to tens or hundreds of thousands. Flexibility comes from planning the right production platform—not from applying one low number to every SKU.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can MOQ Be Confirmed From the Total Order Quantity

Not always. A large total may still contain one colour, decal, shape or box below its workable minimum.

Can Several Designs Share One MOQ

Sometimes. Designs are easier to group when they use the same shape, body, base glaze, decoration route and packaging size.

Why Can the Quotation Change After Sampling

The final sample may introduce a special glaze, revised artwork, extra firing, different packaging or a new specification. Confirming these details early keeps the quotation stable.
