A Familiar Inspiration, Reimagined
Bakery themes naturally suggest comfort, morning rituals and the relaxed atmosphere of a neighbourhood café. The design challenge is to keep that emotional warmth without becoming overly cute or generic. Our starting point was a hand-drawn croissant, refined into confident contour lines that reveal the pastry's layered structure. Cropped silhouettes and close-up curves give the familiar motif a more contemporary, graphic character.
Building One Visual Language
A strong collection needs more than a hero image. Colour, line, spacing and supporting graphics must work as one visual language. In this bakery-inspired ceramic collection, espresso-brown croissant linework is balanced with butter yellow, deep black-cherry red and a restrained cobalt-blue accent. Warm bone ceramic provides a calm base. By repeating selected elements rather than every detail, the collection feels coordinated without appearing mechanically duplicated.
Beyond a Single Mug
The idea was designed to extend naturally across a tall mug, a smaller coffee cup and saucer, a rounded bowl and a shallow plate. Each form creates a different canvas. The mug carries a clear central motif; the bowl uses stripes to follow its curve; the plate gives the croissant more space and turns the graphic into a focal point. Scale and placement are adjusted for each object so the whole range stays coherent while every piece has its own presence.
Designed for Real Ceramics
An attractive sketch must also translate well onto ceramic surfaces. Curves can change the appearance of a line, rims affect usable artwork space and colour may respond differently after firing.
